Background: Second Morning is a highly popular Korean lifestyle and stationery brand, beloved for its minimalist lines and healing imagery—such as the iconic “Smiling Lemon,” red apples, and sweet potatoes.
Their lunch bags, which blend cozy, small-happiness aesthetics into daily life, are highly popular among youth in Taiwan. This project required a perfect balance between high-fidelity brand reproduction and professional-grade manufacturing.
The Challenge: Balancing Aesthetics with Safety
With an order of 515 units destined for a high-profile brand pop-up event, we faced three primary complexities:
- Food-Contact Compliance & Physical Stability: The client mandated that the inner thermal layer must meet strict food-contact safety standards. Ordinary, thin aluminum films easily crack or shed aluminum powder under daily folding and stitching.
If seams are not perfectly sealed, leaks could compromise thermal performance and stain the exterior canvas, destroying the brand’s visual presentation.
- Manufacturing Constraints: In our initial prototyping, we experimented with a thinner aluminum film to reduce weight. However, we discovered it lacked the structural integrity required to survive the bag’s “turning” and sewing process, failing our durability standards for daily goods.
- Time-to-Market: The brand had a hard launch date for their Taiwan pop-up store. We had to balance material re-engineering with full-scale mass production and rigorous QC—all within a 20-day window.
Our Solution: A Dual Upgrade in Materials & Process
To overcome these obstacles, we leveraged our extensive experience in kitchen textiles and brand merchandise:
- Material Matrix Upgrade: We pivoted away from the initial thin materials, upgrading to a medium-thick (100–120g) polyester-aluminum film.
This material is not only PE/PP composite certified for food contact but also demonstrates superior resistance to abrasion, folding, and heat—effectively eliminating risks of powder shedding and seam leakage.
- Standardized “Hidden” Sewing Process: We adopted a rigorous assembly sequence: Separate sewing of exterior and lining -> Structure integration -> Turning out through a hidden bottom opening -> Reinforced top-stitching.
This ensures a clean, seamless finish while protecting the aluminum layer from secondary damage during the production process.
- Precision Color Reproduction: To honor the Second Morning aesthetic, we utilized high-definition digital printing. This ensured the “Smiling Lemon” artwork remained vibrant, with crisp, clean lines that remained faithful to the brand’s original design language.
Project Outcome: Through tight coordination, we successfully managed material procurement, production, and QC within the required timeframe. All 515 units passed internal inspection and arrived on schedule. The client reported that the final product perfectly captured the brand essence required for the Taiwan pop-up, with a quality feel that exceeded expectations.

Q1: For IP-based merchandise, how do you ensure the final mass-produced quality matches the brand's expectations?
A procurement manager’s biggest fear is the gap between the “prototype” and the “mass-produced reality.” In this project, we prioritized both printing fidelity and material “tactility.” We strictly followed the brand’s International Pantone color codes to ensure absolute chromatic consistency.
