Abstract

In modern commercial packaging, custom furoshiki gift wrap has become the preferred solution for many brands pursuing a high-level image and unique style. Pace-Setter recently completed a challenging project – custom black polyester(Special crepe cloth) furoshiki for a well-known biscuit company in the United States. This custom furoshiki uses double side printing technology and has a small logo carefully designed in the corner, and the gold stamping process increases its texture. 

This article will detail the whole process of this custom furoshiki project, showing how we meet customer needs and overcome design difficulties through professional design and exquisite craftsmanship.

 Initial Communication

July 23rd, 2024, we received an inquiry from a well-known cookie company in the United States. This customer produces and sells unique brand cookies. They hope to increase the cookies’ brand value through customized packaging, so choose a gift wrap factory to customize 2 types of furoshiki wrapping with different logos. Their quantity is 500pcs each at the first.

Communication Phase

The customer said that this was their first time customizing a fabric furoshiki, and they don’t have a product design drawing, only two brand logos. We often have similar customers, so we can design their brand furoshiki according to their ideas. Also, we will recommend a suitable furoshiki design based on our own experience. After about 20 minutes of communication, we confirmed the important information below.

Size: The customer told us that the cookie gift box size is 4 1/16x2x13 1/18 inches, but he didn’t know how big the furoshiki gift wrap would be. We recommended 80*80cm wrap cloth for him and showed similar sizes pictures. The customer agreed with our recommendation.

Material: Regarding furoshiki fabric material, based on previous case experience and the customer’s industry, we recommended polyester fabrics for him because this material is soft, light, and durable, good for brand promotion or gift packaging. It can also be printed with various patterns and colors, very suitable for double side printing. The customer was very satisfied after seeing our sample pictures.

Color: In terms of custom furoshiki color, the customer is very inclined to double-sided dyeing. We sent some different colors pictures, to simplify the proof phase, and the customer finally chose black. 

Logo: As for logo design, the customer asked us which process is suitable for luxurious furoshiki fabric gift wrap. We recommended gold printing and gold stamping processes and told them the difference is that gold stamping has a better effect, clearer pattern, and higher price. The customer chose the gold stamping furoshiki style without hesitation.

Challenge and Solution

During the initial design phase, we found a challenge. The client wanted to print the logo in the corner of the furoshiki clothes, they wanted the logo to appear naturally on the knot after the furoshiki folding. However, due to the logo size being too long, they could not achieve the desired effect when furoshiki folding, and might affect the overall aesthetics. And, the client is very strict with their brand logo, and unwill to do any revisions.

To meet the client’s needs, our design team made several adjustments to the situation that the customer agreed. Through precise measurement and simulated folding effect, we finally revised the furoshiki logo into an arc shape and adjusted its position. The cloth gift wrap design meets the requirements of customers and is more personalized, The client was very satisfied after seeing our renderings.

Sample Proof Phase

After all the details were determined, we made a simulation drawing for customer confirmation, and recommended the client make a sample to see if the effect was as expected, and we started sample production after the client paid. 

July 31, 2024. After 5 days of proofing, the custom furoshiki samples are finally completed. During the entire production process, we give customers feedback timely, after confirming the custom furoshiki sample by video and pictures with the client, we express it to customers on time.
